FAKE! Atiku Is Not Resigning From Politics As Broadcast Message Claim

This time, it is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is receiving the arrow.

There have been claims that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar is quitting politics.

This claim originates from a broadcast message being circulated on WhatsApp.

According to the message said to have been written by Mr Atiku, he has decided to accept defeat and urges others to do the same.

Mr Atiku lost the 2023 election to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Mr Atiku and other opposition parties are contesting Mr Tinubu’s win at the Election Tribunal.

The Claim

According to the Press Release being circulated on WhatsApp, Mr Abubakar is ready to work with President-elect Tinubu.

Also, it claims he is publicly retiring from active politics after a “successful journey” so far.

The release claims that irrespective of his inability to win the presidential race, he is grateful to his supporters.

Furthermore, the release claims Mr. Atiku congratulates the president-elect and urged others to do the same.

Was It Really Atiku? 

Although the broadcast message has been circulating, The FactCheckHub has proven it to be fake.

According to The FactCheckHub, there is no official statement about resigning on Mr Atiku’s social media pages.

Also, no credible media platform has reported or confirmed the resignation.

Furthermore, The FactCheckHub reached out to Mr Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe.

Mr Ibe confirms that the claims are “false and a contrived statement by those shopping for validation and congratulations to the flawed and shambolic presidential election”.

In addition, Mr Ibe shared a copy of a press release signed by Mr Atiku debunking the claim.

In the press release, Mr Atiku states that he would “never validate an illegitimate outcome of a flawed process”.

Mr Atiku also reiterates that he would continue to challenge the legality of the election.
