The Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government’s decision to increase the tariff payable by some electricity consumers in Nigeria came as a big shock to many, especially as it came at a time when Nigerians are going through so much hardship.
This hike has generated many reactions from numerous people and groups.
Now, the Lagos chapter of the Labour Party (LP) have decided to lend their voice.
They have urged the government to reconsider its decision to hike the tariff.
The news of the tariff surfaced on Wednesday, after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), approved an increase of 300% in electricity tariff for some consumers.
This was revealed by the Vice Chairman of NERC, Musiliu Oseni, in Abuja.
Worsened Hardship
However, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Olubunmi Odesanya spoke with journalists in Lagos on Saturday.
According to him, the hike would worsen the current economic hardship in Nigeria.
Adesanya described the increase in tariff as astronomical and unreasonable.
He added that a good number of Nigerians are already suffering as a result of the removal of the fuel subsidy.
She asserted that if the government had reason to hike tariffs at all, the increase should not be more than 25.
Bearing The Burnt
She said: “On a daily basis, Nigerians are bearing the brunt. This is simply not working. A good number of Nigerians are suffering.
“Nigerians are currently facing hardship. The government should know that people are at the heart of every government.

“This astronomical increase in electricity tariff should be reconsidered”.
Also, Adesanya advised the Tinubu government to reduce the cost of governance in order to save funds, rather than removing subsidies.
