The Enugu State government has issued a new order, banning the unauthorised use of vehicles with tinted glass in the state.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State gave the directive on Monday.

Mbah said the ban was in line with his avowed commitment to combatting the nefarious activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements in the state.

The use of tinted glass vehicles as tricks by kidnappers to carry out their activities has grown to a worrisome level, hence, the ban by the government.

The governor announced the new directive in a statement issued through the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia.

Penalty For Defaulters

The governor says the ban takes effect after four weeks of the notice, starting on Monday, September 4, 2023.

Mbah, therefore, noted that defaulting vehicles shall be impounded.

If your vehicle is found wanting, it shall not be released to you until the tinted glasses are removed or fines are paid.

“The ban shall take effect after four weeks of this notice, with consequent enforcement starting on Monday, September 4, 2023.”

Sufficient Time

“This is to give owners of vehicles with tinted glasses, who did not obtain Police Tinted Permits before the suspension of its issuance by the Nigeria Police Force on June 7, 2021, sufficient time to have them removed or replaced if they are factory fitted, in accordance with the provisions of the law.

“Defaulting vehicles shall be impounded by the enforcement taskforce and shall not be released to their owners until the tinted glasses are removed or replaced and the specified fines are paid.

“The ban is primarily aimed at curtailing the activities of criminals and to generally enhance the security and safety of the good people and residents of Enugu State.
