The former holder of this same record is a chef from India named Lata Tondon, who achieved this feat in 2019 for a cook-a-thon that lasted 87 hours and 45 minutes.

Hilda Baci attempted to break Guinness World Records for the longest cooking time by an individual for 100 hours.

The chef cooked over 100 pots of food during her four-day exercise, creating a 35-item menu “as a guide” for every meal that she would cook.

However, she wasn’t awarded the 100 hours she recorded due to some rules of the exercise she “broke,” according to GWR.

The Rules Of GWR

“After reviewing all the footage, we’re delighted to announce that Hilda Baci is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual).”

She was awarded 93 hours and 11 minutes instead of the 100-hour milestone she set out to achieve.

Guinness World Records announced that, “after reviewing the evidence,”, they are unable to award the 100 hours claimed because of a miscalculation in her resting hours.

“Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours; however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.

Why Hilda Wasn’t Awarded 100 Hours

“As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity.

“These rest breaks can accumulate if not taken.

“They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.

Aside from this, Hilda was able to abide by the rules during her record-breaking cook-a-thon:

  • There must be at least two items being prepared or cooked at any time.
  • A sous-chef is permitted to assist in prep work, washing up, and cleaning the kitchen area, but all the cooking must be done by the individual attempting the record.

According to GWR, one of the most important rules for food-related record attempts is that all items must be consumed after cooking.

To this end, Hilda invited Nigerians to come and eat her freshly prepared meals.

The leftover food was donated to the Festus Fajemilo Foundation.

“Hilda’s cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans.”

Other Chefs Coming For Hilda Baci

So far, Hilda has gained recognition far and wide, however, there is a fierce battle amongst other Nigerian chefs, as they have sprung up to challenge her record.
