Finidi George has been appointed as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made the announcement following a recommendation by its Technical and Development Committee.

George, a former Super Eagles forward, had served as assistant coach to Jose Peseiro for 20 months before assuming interim leadership of the team in March.

He was in charge for two friendly matches against Ghana and Mali, with 2-1 victory over Ghana and a 0-2 loss to Mali.

Finidi was a key player in Nigeria’s ‘Golden Generation’, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 and representing the country in the FIFA World Cup.

He also proved his coaching mettle in the Nigerian Professional Football League leading Eyimba FC of Aba to the domestic league title in 2023.
