Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has dismissed claims that Afrobeats is currently experiencing its worst performance in two decades.

“I Don’t Mind Being A Second Wife,” Tiwa Savage

Her response comes after prominent music executives, including Paul Okoye (Paulo) and DJ Big N, suggested that the genre is witnessing a decline.

Speaking at the Unstoppable Africans event, Savage countered the narrative, insisting that Afrobeats remains vibrant and continues to grow globally.

“Afrobeats is the fastest growing genre in the world. We created it with nothing no support, no infrastructure, no real belief even from our own people initially,” she said.

Savage also reflected on the cultural transformation brought by the genre, revealing that she once felt unhappy being African while growing up in London, but now feels immense pride due to Afrobeats’ global impact.

“There was a conversation at one point that Afrobeats would have its 15 minutes of fame and fade away, but we are still here, filling stadiums and topping charts,” she added.

Tiwa Savage emphasised that despite limited support and resources, Afrobeats has cemented its place as a global force.

“We are Africans, and we are unstoppable,” she declared.
