There appears to be something that could be putting the running mate of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a tight corner in the coming general election.

Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to know something you don not know and he is willing to share.

Northern Nigeria is not supporting me over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the general election because of my tribe, says Shettima.

It is only a few days to the February 25 general election and Vice Presidential candidate of the APC shared why he is not being supported in the North.

According to him, he does not have majority support in the North because he does not belong to the two main tribes in the North, Hausa or Fulani.

However, Shettima believes that he has been of greater benefit to the north than Atiku.

His running mate is from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria while Atiku has an Igbo running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Atiku Does Not Benefit Northerners

Speaking during a visit to the Emir of Daura in Katsina, Shettina expressed shock that ‘Atiku does not benefit Northerners yet they continue to support him’.

He wants Northerners to show him what Atiku did for the region during his eight years as vice president that warrants their vote.

Tinubu’s running mate, alleges that the Northerners are choosing to not support him because of his Kanuri heritage.

“People are saying that I’m not Hausa.

“We have had people from the north who are not Hausa and they benefitted the north.

“Umar Musa Yar’adua, Buhari and others are examples.

“I’m not Hausa, but I am Fulani-blood-related. I’m a Kanuri also, and I have benefited the north than the other,” he said.

In reference to Atiku, Shettima said: “Ours is ours, but our man who does not benefit us cannot be considered as our own”.
