Naira Scarcity: Banks Burnt As Protest Hits Ogun State

The prolonged scarcity of the Naira notes is still causing so much hunger in Nigerians. Many people are unable to access to their money to carter for small needs like transportation and petty purchases. 

This has whipped up so much anger among Nigerians who are now willing to risk it all.

Remember, a hungry man, is an angry man.

As a result, two banks have been set on fire in the Sagamu area of Ogun State as protesters storm the streets of the state over the Naira scarcity.

Recall that protesters last week Friday protested on the naira scarcity in the Mowe-Ibafo area of Ogun State.

The resident also blocked the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in protest against the policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which has caused hardship for many.

Protest May Disrupt Election

Following the development, some Nigerians have called on the Nigeria Police to be at alert, as the protest may be plots to disrupt the forthcoming election.

Many others blame the CBN over the scarcity of the notes.

A Twitter user, @General Oblack in his reaction to the development wrote: “To be very honest, I am not seeing this as a kind of Naira scarcity protest again.

“My view about the whole thing happening here is that some people are trying to disrupt the electoral process so that election won’t hold @NigeriapolicePR, please be alerted.”

Another user, @CentParrot wrote, “CBN is pushing 200 and other lesser notes into the banks to reach the citizens.

“As you burn down the banks in your vicinity, hope you’re ready to trek to the banks in another person’s town or LGA to withdraw your 2k”.

At the time of filing this report, the Ogun State police command is yet to react to the incident.
