Facebook and Instagram users who are yet to get verified may never be able to get the verification badge or may have to pay heavily for it.

After the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk placed a fee on the verification badge of the bird app, American multinational technology conglomerate, Meta, has rolled out a plan to start charging Facebook and Instagram users monthly for blue tick verification.

Elon Musk introduced the subscription plans on his microblogging platform in 2022, giving subscribed users special features restricted to ordinary account users.

The update was announced by Meta chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, justifying that the move will improve the security and authenticity of the platforms.

It is understood that Meta’s paid subscription service is not yet available for businesses, so anyone can pay for verification.

Requirement For Verification

According to Meta, the subscription would provide paying users with a blue badge, increased visibility of their posts, protection from impersonators, and easier access to customer service.

The change, according to reports, will not affect previously verified accounts, but it will increase visibility for some smaller users who become verified as a result of the paid feature.

According to Meta, in order to be verified, Instagram and Facebook usernames must match a government-issued ID document.

Also, users must have a profile picture that includes their face.

Reddit, YouTube, and Discord all use subscription-based models.

However, Meta is yet to specify when the feature will be rolled out to other countries.

Zuckerberg, though, noted in a post on his page that the features would be out “soon.”
