In fact, Nigerians are now taking a compulsory money management lesson.

While the fuel scarcity started in the second half of 2022, the Naira scarcity started very early in 2023.

The government says the redesign of the Naira is part of its anti-corruption strategy.

However, the policy has left many Nigerians stranded and unable to access the redesigned Naira notes.

Amidst the unavailability of the new notes, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says the old ones are now illegal.

For the Ondo State Governor, Rotimu Akeredolu, the timing of the Naira redesign is wrong.

Mr. Akeredolu believes that the Naira and petrol scarcity are plots to lower the rating of the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)  Bola Tinubu, in the elections.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to reverse the controversial new naira design policy.

According to Akeredolu, the CBN should allow for both old and new notes to co-exist.

“We have a problem we are facing in this country today. Our rating as a party is not that favourable.

“Let’s not deceive ourselves. Must it be now that we will have this financial policy?

“How? Fuel and everything? Things are not easy. This policy is not right at this time.

“It should be reversed. Reserve it and tell CBN that we are reversing it. Let old and new notes co-exist.

“Okada, taxis, banks are not taking old notes again.

“There is an injunction and everyone is behaving like there is no injunction,” Akeredolu said.

Also, he was of the opinion that the CBN Governor was not fit for the position.

“We have said that this man (CBN Governor) should be removed when he contested to be president.

“The man is not fit for that position. A man who attempted to be President will frustrate us at this time,” Akeredolu said.

Addressing the youths in the party, Akeredolu praised them for their relentless efforts.

He noted that the youths would determine the outcome of next week’s presidential election.

“Your demographics show that you occupy a larger percentage. You are the ones that will talk to yourselves,” the governor lauded.
