The Dane said he was “the happiest man alive” after finally breaking his domestic scoring duck.

“I had several talks with him, and I pointed out you scored for Denmark a lot and you scored in the Champions League so that demonstrated ability so believe in it and it will come,” Erik ten Hag told Amazon Prime.

“He will score more.

“When strikers don’t score it is always a problem, but he has a strong character, he has a big personality and that is what a striker needs and when you keep investing the goals will come.”

Hojlund had scored five times in United’s otherwise disastrous Champions League campaign but had not scored at all in the Premier League.

He had put in an anonymous performance in his last outing at West Ham and was taken off early in the second half.

But he reacted quickly to fire United into the lead against Villa following a corner.

Hojlund will look to build on his first Premier League goal when United visit Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

However, the Tricky Trees will be high on confidence after thrashing Newcastle 3-1.
