The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna.
Ruth died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after sustaining injuries in a recent road accident involving a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 31, 2025, the company extended its condolences to the Otabor family, describing the incident as a tragic loss.
“On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the company said.
According to the statement, Dangote Group officials and insurance partners had been actively supporting Ruth and her family since the accident, covering medical expenses and planning to fly her to India for advanced treatment.
However, she passed away before the arrangements could be carried out.
“Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”
“At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations.”
“We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy,” the statement added.
The company prayed for God’s mercy on Ruth’s soul and comfort for her grieving family.
