The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly opposed the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official records as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, criticised the electoral body’s action, describing it as politically influenced and inconsistent with established facts.
According to the ADC, INEC’s move reflects external pressure allegedly coming from the federal government.
The party further claimed that the government is unsettled by what it described as the ADC’s growing political strength, accusing it of attempting to weaken opposition parties and steer the country toward a one-party system.
It argued that INEC’s stance contradicts both legal interpretations and the realities surrounding the party’s leadership structure.
Expressing concern over what it sees as a troubling alignment, the ADC warned that the electoral commission’s actions could be interpreted as taking sides against the interests of Nigerians.
The Next Course Of Action
Despite the development, the party assured its members and supporters that it is carefully assessing the situation and will soon outline its next course of action.
It also called for calm and resilience as it works to address the issue.
The statement concluded with a firm rejection of INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling, reiterating the party’s belief that the decision was influenced by a government uneasy about the ADC’s rising influence.

“We knew that INEC was being pressured by a government that has become jittery from the ADC’s rising momentum even in the face of its relentless assault on all opposition parties.”
