Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a private visit to former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, sparking fresh political conversations ahead of evolving party dynamics.
The meeting, which took place at Kwankwaso’s residence, was revealed in a statement shared by Atiku on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.
According to him, their discussion centered on the growth of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and strategies for advancing effective governance.
Atiku described the visit as both cordial and productive, referring to Kwankwaso as a trusted ally.
He emphasised their shared commitment to strengthening the party and working toward national recovery.
“I visited my brother and partner, His Excellency Rabiu Kwankwaso.
We had meaningful conversations about our party’s progress and the urgent need to deliver good governance for Nigerians,” he stated.
The meeting marks their first known engagement since Kwankwaso’s recent exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and subsequent alignment with the ADC—a move that has reshaped opposition politics.
The Protest
Meanwhile, the ADC has raised alarm over what it describes as a calculated attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine its stability.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that a protest scheduled for April 2 in Abuja is being orchestrated to appear as an internal revolt.
The demonstration, according to the ADC, is intended to call for the removal of its National Chairman, David Mark.
The party further claimed that a serving minister is backing the planned protest, with the broader objective of pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking actions that could weaken the opposition, especially following Kwankwaso’s defection.

Abdullahi called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, urging him to restrain members of his party if they are acting without his direct approval.
