Reports have been circulating of plans by elements in the presidential villa to postpone elections.

These elements are reported to be using issues around Naira and fuel scarcity as excuses to see to it that the elections do not hold.

However, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, does not think the fuel scarcity would affect the elections.

On natiaonal television, Kyari said no one planned the scarcity so it would have an impact on the election.

“I do not think anybody sits down to orchestrate that there should be scarcity so that it will impact elections and so on.

“I don’t think it happens that way if it is so. But it is not true because the reality is that these glitches actually started early in 2022.

“It has nothing to do with this election period. Once you have a challenge of this nature, it is a cyclical thing.

“Once you have this challenge, they continue to come up, and then once you have arbitrage issues, you have this glitch,” he says.

Still, others like Governor Nasir El-Rufai believe that this is being orchestrated by fifth columnists to see that the APC presidential candidate does not get elected.

In line with El-Rufali, the presidential candidate of the ruling party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu also accused some party members of working to sabotage his plans to become president.

What APC Is Saying

APC says the report about it pushing for the election postponement is “blatantly false and reckless”.

The party noted that the report holds no shred of credibility and should be disregarded. It  aims to mislead and cause anxiety, the party claims.

“Our general election is a matter of extreme national importance bordering on national security and corporate integrity of our country,” APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said.

He noted that the election should not “become a matter for idle, rash or insensitive speculation by the media or any institution for that matter”.

Tinubu Is Confident

The APC flagbearer, Tinubu said the Naira and fuel scarcity would not stop the elections from holding.

 Bola Tinubu

Tinubu is confident that if there is no fuel, Nigerians would still walk long distances to vote him in as president.

“Even, if there is no fuel, Nigerians should not worry, nothing can stop the elections from holding.

“We are going to vote and we are going to win.

“I’m your son in Ogun. We are going to take over power. This election is a revolution.”

We are going to reduce the price of fuel. Nigerians should go and relax their minds.

“This is a superior revolution, you know me, we are going to the poll to win,” Tinubu said at a presidential campaign rally in Ogun state.

Despite the different reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had made no indications about postponing the elections.
