The commission disclosed that plans have been put in place to replace faulty BVAS machines that might fail at various polling units on the day of election.

According to INEC’s spokesman Festus Okoye, the electoral body has provided spare BVAS machines across polling units in the country, therefore any machine that fails would be replaced with the spare ones.

Okoye while speaking on Channels Television explained that 176,000 BVAS has been deployed to polling units in the country, noting that some personnel have also been trained to intervene in issues of such. He however noted that in case there is no remedy till the end of the election day, elections would be undermined and voting would be repeated within 24 hours as stipulated in the Electoral Act.

He said “For each electoral ward, we are going to have some spare BVAS to be deployed speedily if there is any issue or any challenge in any of our polling units. We have also trained technical support staff that can also intervene if there is any challenge with the BVAS. “But if there is sustained malfunction of the BVAS up to the time of the closing of the poll, the Electoral Act demands that we should undermine voting in that particular polling unit and repeat voting within 24 hours.”
