The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says no judgment from the Supreme Court stops the commission from investigating stare fraud cases.

This is in response to a claim by former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) who claims the commission has no right to investigate the Kogi state government.

This statement was made after the EFCC arraigned a nephew to the Kogi state governor for an N10bn fraud case.

Agbakoba claims the Supreme Court said the EFCC “cannot be a jack of all trades” and they should focus on Section 46 of their Act.

However, in response, the EFCC in a thread post on its official Twitter page said the Supreme Court made no such judgment and the lawyer could not back up his claims.

The commission revealed that this was an “indecorous and utterly irresponsible attempt” by Agbakoba to dress it in the borrowed garb of a lawless entity.

According to the EFCC, “In all his (Agbakoba) tirades, no evidence was presented go support his claim that the EFCC has been lawless, nor did he mention any law which the Commission’s investigation of the finances of the Kogi State Violated.”

The commission revealed that it would not allow anything to deter it from investigating corruption cases.

“No amount of intimidation and sponsored attacks will deter the Commission from investigating cases of corruption in any level of government, or involving any individual however well placed until we rid our nation of this monster,” it said.
