President Bola Tinubu has addressed the leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at the 64th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The summit took place at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja on Sunday.
In his address, Tinubu said the Sahel Alliance would not lessen the resolve of the ECOWAS to uphold its primary objective.
Tinubu spoke of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso
According to him, the objective is to prioritise good governance for West Africans.
Furthermore, Tinubu believes it catalyses socioeconomic transformation and development.

Quest For Democracy
Also, he said: “It is important that we also review some development in our sub-region, including the move by some of our members under Military rule to float an Alliance of Sahel States.
“This phantom, push back-alliance appears intended to divert attention from our mutual quest for democracy and good governance that will impact the life of our people.
“We refuse to be detracted from pursuing the collective dreams and aspirations and the noble path of ECOWAS integration”.
According to him ECOWAS will follow it as laid out in its institutional and legal frameworks.
The meeting is coming at a time that the governments of few ECOWAS member states were overthrown by military leaders.
Tinubu had pushed for a return to democracy in Niger, but the military said it would defend the nation’s sovereignty.
Not much had been achieved in making the military return government to a democratically elected leader.
