Ondo State’s two largest political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have clashed over the state’s political affairs.

The APC, through its chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, claimed that the opposition party had gone extinct in the state, claiming that many PDP chieftains had defected to the APC.

However, the PDP, through its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, said his party was unconcerned by the defection of its former chieftains.

“Of all the political parties in Ondo State, the APC is the only united party, Adetimehin remarked.

“There is no divide, and we are devoid of rancor. We collaborate under the direction of Governor Akeredolu. He is a man who believes in the party’s supremacy.

“He never interferes with the party’s operation and he enables the party to function properly.

“That is what brings the party together and makes us the most powerful political party in the state.

“That is why many members of opposition political parties are flocking to Ondo State to join the APC.

“Three days ago, the PDP’s grassroots strength completely crumbled into the APC. The APC gained the support of all previous vice chairmen and 203 former councilors.

“The Chairman of the PDP Elders Forum in Idanre has joined the APC. In Ondo, the PDP has become extinct.”

Balme It On APC

According to the PDP’s spokesman, “Adetimehin is probably the only person who is unaware that Ondo State people hold his party, APC, and its inhuman government responsible for their agony and suffering over the last eight years.

“Specifically, the loss of fuel subsidies and its impact on everyone.

“He is unaware that even those who were duped into voting APC in the 2023 general elections are already regretting and lamenting the error.”

According to him, their decision has caused immeasurable hardship for them and their families.

“To say ‘PDP is now extinct’ is not only ridiculous, but also dangerous.

‘Sinking APC Ship’

“In addition, the majority of the 203 councillors Adetimehin is congratulating for joining his party had not participated in the previous two election cycles in Ondo State.

“Some have been in the APC since 2016. Only someone like Adetimehin understands how the defection of such persons leads to the extinction of the PDP.

“The PDP in Ondo State is unsettled by a few individuals who are on a self-destructive adventure in Adetimehin’s sinking APC ship.

“While we sympathize with such people, it is sad that individuals who should be crying are dancing and celebrating.

“But, sooner or later, they will realize that they have been living a lie all along.

“There is no evidence that PDP is extinct. And it never will be.”
