This ban has resulted in the arrest of six commercial motorbike riders commonly referred to as “Okada riders”.

The arrested persons were the riders and their passengers and they were arrested by the Lagos State Task Force for using the expressway.

Arrest Of Okada Riders

The arrest, according to the agency’s announcement on Sunday, was conducted during an operation under the directive of its chairman Shola Jejeloye.

“We arrested six suspects, including riders and passengers today at CMS and we will ensure that they face the full wrath of the law for their violations.

“We hope that it would serve as a deterrent to others who intend to ride or patronise Okada operators along these routes. Anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” Jejeloye said.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eliminating the threat posed by Okada riders in Lagos State.

According to him, these people have developed new ways to operate on the state’s highways and restricted routes.

Threatens Jail Term

Jejeloye said: “Some of these recalcitrant Okada operators who had their bikes seized in the past have acquired more portable types of bikes called ‘lady machine’ to carry out their operations on the highways.

“These bikes are sleek and more evasive but these antics are no longer a secret.

“Motorbikes with engine capacity below 200cc are not allowed to operate on the state highways”.

He said the police have made effort to inform illegal Okada operators of the state government’s policy.

As a result, all types of bikes that fall within that range, whether they are woman machines or standard Okadas, will be seized and destroyed in accordance with the law.

Furthermore, the police threatened to detain any rider or passenger found breaking the rules governing driving on the highways and other designated routes.
