Layoffs: Dell Joins Tech Giants To Cut Off Work Force

Dell Technologies is set to let go of about 5% of its workforce due to challenges in the Personal Computer market.

The company which is one of Ireland’s biggest private-sector employers currently employs about 5,000 people in Ireland across Dublin, Cork, and Limerick.

About 6,500 people are likely to lose their jobs in the coming weeks.

About 250 people may lose their jobs in Ireland and about 6,500 worldwide will suffer the layoff.

Why The Company Has To Layoff

The company is facing harsh market conditions that is carrying on its back an uncertain future, Joint Chief Operating Officer of Dell, Jeff Clarke says.

According to Clarke, it is a tough decision to let go of its employees but it is a necessity for the long-term health of the company.

“Unfortunately, with changes like this, some members of our team will be leaving the company.

“There is no tougher decision, but one we had to make for our long-term health and success.

“Please know we’ll support those impacted as they transition to their next opportunities,” he said.

Before this, Dell had made certain decisions including a pause on external hiring, limiting travel, and reducing outside services spending.

In a statement, Mr. Clarke said: “We continuously evaluate operations to ensure the right structure is in place to provide the best value and support to partners and customers.

“This is part of our regular course of business”.

Over the last six months, a wave of job losses has hit several technology firms.
