The future of nations is in the hands of teachers, who have the power to either obliterate that future or employ it to wonderful use.
This makes teaching the most noble profession on earth. A career with such influence is unique.
They should not be owed salaries and they are supposed to be among the well paid profession with lots of benefits.
Nigeria is one of the nation’s where people say that the rewards of teachers are in heaven.
Interestingly, the Nigerian government is trying to make sure that they get reward here on earth and secure the future of the nation.
Now, the Federal Government under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has started paying the federal government-employed teachers’ back wages.
The impacted teachers were the ones who profited from the extension of President Buhari’s administration’s service tenure.
President Buhari proposed some incentives for teachers in 2020 on World Teachers’ Day, including a new pay scale and an increase in the retirement age from 60 to 65.

From March 2021 to March 2023, a few teachers who benefited from the service extension had their pay withheld.
On Sunday, senior officials from the Federal Ministries of Education, Finance, Budget, and National Planning announced that the withheld salaries were being paid.
“I can confirm to you that they have started receiving their salaries.
“They also received the arrears of the peculiar allowances. All arrears of salaries will be paid in full.”
Confirming the development, one of the beneficiary in Ilorin, Kwara State capital said: “It is true.
“We have started receiving.
“Though we only got the one for April 2023 we have been reassured that the arrears will be cleared”.
