Collapse of buildings in Lagos is almost becoming a norm. Every now and then, buildings crumble and it is reaching a point that the situation no longer strikes Nigerians as a surprise.

Unfortunately, governors of different states have not been able to get a permanent solution to the collapse of buildings that in most cases claim lives.

The visit scenes of collapsed buildings with huge donation or compensation but people say it is better to stop building collapse than compensate victims.

Banana Island Collapse

On Wednesday, April 12, a seven-storey building collapsed in the Banana Island area of Lagos State.

Few days later, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited the scene.

The governor’s visit was on Saturday and it was for on spot assessment of the situation.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) the storey building, which was under construction, collapsed while casting was being done.

The government had alleged also that the collapsed building was unapproved.

However, on Saturday, April 22, Sanwo-Olu led a delegation to have an on-the-spot assessment of the collapsed structure located at First Avenue, Banana Island.

The Lagos State Governor was led in the inspection by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tayo Bamigbose-Martin.

He was also accompanied by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, LABSCA, and other engineers.
