INEC Staff In Police Nets Over 1000 Naira Charges For PVC

Do you remember Chinwendu Nnamani?, the woman who went viral after she was recorded charging registered voters ₦1,000 to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) in Enugu.

Fresh details have emerged, as the Enugu State Police Command confirms the arrest of Nnamani and Nkiruka Patience, her partner in crime.

In a video that surfaced online, Chinwendu, who held a bag containing voters PVC, was seen charging one thousand naira, as charges for delivering the cards to their wards.

She was heard saying in Igbo that, “If you don’t want to pay, you can go to your local government headquarters. You will pay the transport fare.”

However, in a statement on Wednesday, the state police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that Chinwendu was arrested at Emene, Enugu, by police detectives serving in the State CID of the state police command on January 31, 2023.

According to the statement, a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, identified as Nkiruka Patience Obinna, aged 38, was also arrested.

Nkiruka was alleged to have supplied the PVC to the first suspect for distribution to the actual owners.

Ndukwe said: “Investigation has been concluded, and the case charged to court in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

“The suspects were arraigned accordingly. They were granted bail and the case adjourned to February 15, 2023 for further hearing”.
