If you want to catch a thief, you have to think differently and most times, you think like the enemy.
It was end of the road for an armed robber and some of his gang in Gombe when police showed up unexpectedly.
It was an operation of the operatives of the Gombe State Police Command that yielded positive result.
The caught one suspected armed robber while others escaped with gun wounds during a gun duel along the Gombe-Bauchi road.
In a statement on Thursday, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, shared insight into how the police foiled a robbery.
He said the robbers attacked a commercial vehicle and robbed passengers of their valuables.

“On February 9, 2023, about 05:00 hours, a commercial vehicle coming to Gombe from the Bauchi axis informed the men of Mopol 34 PMF attached to Wuro Dole check point that, at about 04:30 hours, a team of suspected armed robbers blocked the Gombe/Bauchi road with stones and robbed them of their valuables.
“On getting the report, the police team mobilised and boarded the same commercial bus back to the scene of the incident.
The robbers suddenly came out and approached the bus with the intention to attack and rob the vehicle, but they took to their hills on citing the policemen in the bus.

“The police went after them and succeeded in neutralising one of the suspects while others escaped, most likely with gun or bullet wounds.
“The robbers were armed with machetes, sticks, and fabricated guns. Meanwhile, there was no harm done to either our personnel or civilians.”
According to him, the suspect’s corpse was taken to the morgue of the State Specialist Hospital, Gombe.
The police are carrying out further investigation into the matter.
