Do you remember the Labour Party (LP) candidate that was killed in Enugu while going for a campaign. 

His name is Oyibo Chukwu. How the Labour Party is replacing him to enable them participate in the election.

The party has picked Kelvin Chukwu as its candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial Zone election slated for March 11.

Kelvin Chukwu is the younger brother of late Oyibo Chukwu.

Oyibo was killed on February 22 along Amaechi-Agbani Road within the Enugu metropolis.

The Unfortunate Incident

He Late Oyibo Chukwu, was killed alongside his aide.

He was returning from a campaign three days before the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Following the murder of the politician, the Independent National Electoral Commission  (INEC) postponed the conduct of the Senatorial election to March 11.

A New Candidate

With the postponement by INEC, the party has opportunity to select a new candidate for the senatorial race.

Oyibo’s younger brother, Chukwu emerged as the LP senatorial candidate.

He won the primary by-election held on Sunday in Enugu with 223 votes to defeat three other rivals.

Announcing the primary election results on Sunday in Enugu, the LP National Vice Chairman (South-East), Innocent Okeke, said Chukwu scored 223 votes to defeat his rivals, who polled no vote.

Okeke, therefore, declared Chukwu the new candidate of the party for the Enugu East senatorial zone election scheduled for March 11.

Fulfilling The Dreams

Responding, Chukwu promised to fulfill all the dreams of his late brother and make the people of the district proud.

He added that the family was yet to recover from how his elder brother was gruesomely shot and burnt alongside his personal aide.

The LP state Chairman, Casmir Agbo, praised the contestants and 231 delegates drawn from the 77 wards in the senatorial district for their resilience and support.
