The convoy of the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has been attacked in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday as sporadic gunshots flew around.

The spokesman of the Atiku Campaign, Senator Dino Malaye, has blamed the attack on the ruling party in Borno.

Melaye lamented that more than 74 people have been hospitalised after the unexpected sad incidence occurred in Borno.

The ruling party in Borno state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been fingered as being responsible for the attack on the presidential campaign train of the opposition party on Wednesday.

In a video seen on social media, a group of people were seen running in different directions as gunshots rend the air.

Vehicles of the Atiku convoy were visibly vandalised at Ramat Square in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Melaye said “they wanted to prevent us from holding the campaign, as we speak, 74 people were injured and hospitalised.

“Several vehicles were vandalised by APC thugs.”

The APC is yet to react to Melaye’s allegation as of the time of filing this report.

It was gathered that hundreds of suspected political thugs are stationed at strategic locations along Maiduguri/Kano road.
