Despite the recent Supreme Court decision confirming President Bola Tinubu’s victory on October 26, 2023, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, declared his unending commitment to the political arena.

“As for me and my party, this phase of work is done.

“However, I am not going to go away, if you think I am going to go away, forget about it,” the former Vice President said at a press briefing on Monday in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

“For as long as I breathe, I will continue to struggle with other Nigerians to deepen our democracy.

“I will continue to work for the return of political and economical restructuring that the country needs,” he added.

Atiku affirmed that he would continue to work alongside fellow Nigerians to deepen democracy and advocate for political and economic restructuring in Nigeria.

Despite pursuing the presidency for nearly three decades and facing numerous challenges, he remains resolute in his political endeavors.

INEC irregularities

He also maintained his belief that Bola Tinubu was not qualified to run in the February 2023 presidential election and accused the Supreme Court and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of endorsing various irregularities.

Atiku emphasised the importance of preserving faith in the electoral process for the sake of democracy.

However, he expressed dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the Supreme Court’s judgment.

Atiku and his counterpart, Peter Obi, from the Labour Party (LP) had contested Tinubu’s victory through various legal channels.

They began with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal and the Supreme Court.

However, the Supreme Court recently dismissed their appeals, upholding Tinubu’s electoral win.
