The use of nudes to blackmail people is becoming increasingly common in Nigeria. Indeed, the last few days have witnessed the leak of numerous private video or image on the internet.

It has also become a clear fact that, often times, most people who fall victim of blackmail are the ones who put themselves in that situation.

You see, most of these victims engage in sharing their nudes to people online, while others do it for fun. Some have already made a lucrative business out of it.

At the end of the day, they end up being blackmailed with threats of leaking the same nudes they shared.

Sharing nudes is a personal choice that the government cannot stop people from doing. However, there are some safety precautions that can prevent blackmail.

The police are expressing concern about the increasing amount of blackmails and they are issuing precautions.

The Warning

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, has warned Nigerians to tread carefully when sending out their nudes.

He advised the citizenry to cover their faces or any other identification marks when sharing such private videos or images with other individuals.

The police officer also warned Nigerians that videos can also be recorded and screenshot.

Everyone should note that this has become new way scammers make money off ladies and men.

Hundeyin lamented that he had lost count of victims making reports about people blackmailing them with their nudes.

He urged Nigerians not to trust anyone and take adequate precautions.

Trust No One

According to him, “if you must send nudes, at least do one-view or cover your face or any other identification mark.

“And do not forget that video calls can be screen shot/recorded.

“For others, it is a clandestine recording of their intimate moments, of course without consent.

“I have honestly lost count of people, sometimes notable ones, approaching me about someone somewhere blackmailing and extorting them with their nudes (private video).

“Trust no one. Take adequate precautions. Trust your instincts too. And do not forget to reach incb.npf.gov.ng in the unfortunate event you fall victim of this”.
