Chants of “Ellu P” have once again rented the air in celebration, as power moves from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State.

Alex of the Labour Party was declared the winner of the governorship election on Wednesday, March 22, by returning officer Professor Nnenna Oti.

Here are nine things you should know about Abia State Governor-elect, Alex Otti.

1.     Place of Birth

Alex was born on February 18, 1965 in Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.

Otti attended Ngwa High School and Secondary Technical School, Okpuala Ngwa, in Abia State.

3.     Graduate Of UNIPORT

Otti graduated with a first-class degree in economics from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

4.     An MBA Degree Holder

Alex is an MBA degree holder from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). He has taken international courses at institutions like Columbia Business School, Stanford Business School, and Wharton Business School.

5.      Family

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lazarus Weze Otti, are late. His father was a pastor.

6.     Alex Otti Was A Banker

He started his banking career in 1989 with the Nigeria International Bank, then moved to the Nigerian Intercontinental Merchant Bank Ltd.

In 1992, he joined Societe Bancaire Nigeria Limited (merchant bankers) before moving to the United Bank of Africa (UBA) as the principal manager overseeing the bank’s corporate banking sector for the entire south division.

In 2001, he joined the First Bank of Nigeria as assistant general manager and was later appointed executive director of commercial banking. In 2011, he moved from First Bank Nigeria to Diamond Bank as the group managing director and chief executive officer.

7.    Retirement

Otti retired from the banking sector in 2014.

In 2015, he was a governorship candidate in Abia State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
