Global Jet Fuel Expansion Strategy

As a result, this move strengthens Nigeria’s role in global energy trade amid shifting markets.

Chief Executive Officer David Bird outlined these plans at the S&P Global conference in London.

He explained that the refinery already produces surplus jet fuel beyond Africa’s current demand levels.

Therefore, this surplus enables the company to pursue stronger international markets across regions globally.

Leadership Strategy and Market Outlook

In addition, Bird highlighted that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have disrupted fuel supply chains.

Consequently, these disruptions now create new opportunities for refiners outside the Gulf region.

Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery builds its reputation as a reliable global supplier of quality fuel products.

Bird also confirmed that the company has secured long-lead equipment for the expansion programme.

Furthermore, the company finalises construction contracts to support its major capacity growth plans.

Production Growth and Capacity Expansion

Currently, the refinery processes 650,000 barrels per day, making it Africa’s largest facility.

However, aviation fuel demand in Africa remains relatively low compared to other global regions.

Thus, the company continues to focus heavily on export-driven growth strategies.

Additionally, Bird said the group could eventually raise total refining capacity to 2.1 million barrels daily.

Similarly, the group considers building another refinery project in East Africa for future expansion.

At the same time, global jet fuel markets face pressure from tensions involving Iran.

Moreover, risks around the Strait of Hormuz reshape global shipping and supply routes.

As a result, these conditions boost opportunities for suppliers outside the Gulf region.

In April 2026, Dangote Refinery became the world’s largest jet fuel exporter globally.

This achievement resulted from higher output and shifting international trade flows worldwide.

Recently, the company reduced aviation fuel prices from ₦1,750 to ₦1,650 per litre.

Overall, the refinery actively positions itself as a major global aviation fuel supplier.
