Ogbomoso Abduction: Makinde Calls for Calm, Promises Rescue Operation Success

For weeks, families in Ogbomoso have lived through every parent’s worst nightmare.

Classrooms that should be filled with laughter and learning have instead become symbols of anxiety and uncertainty as schoolchildren and teachers remain in the hands of kidnappers.

Ogbomoso Abduction: Makinde Calls for Calm, Promises Rescue Operation Success

As public outrage continues to mount, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed for calm, urging residents not to allow grief and frustration to divide the state during the ongoing rescue efforts.

Protesters Take to the Streets Over Continued Captivity

The governor made the appeal on Tuesday while addressing protesters who gathered at the Government House in Ibadan.

The demonstration brought together members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, the National Association of Nigerian Students and other concerned stakeholders demanding urgent action.

The protesters expressed growing concern over the fate of the abducted pupils and teachers, insisting that every effort must be made to secure their safe return.

Teachers’ Strike Deepens Pressure on Government

The demonstrations come amid an ongoing teachers’ strike in Oyo State.

The industrial action was triggered by a directive from the national leadership of the teachers’ union, which has continued to demand stronger action over the prolonged captivity of the victims.

The situation has intensified pressure on authorities as parents, educators and students seek reassurance that progress is being made.

“This Is Not the Time for Blame” — Makinde

Addressing the crowd, Governor Makinde called for unity rather than finger-pointing.

According to him, the rescue mission requires cooperation among all levels of government and security agencies rather than political disagreements.

The governor stressed that the focus should remain on bringing the victims home safely instead of assigning responsibility for the crisis.

“We Are Dealing With Dangerous People”

In one of his strongest remarks yet, Makinde described the kidnappers as individuals who operate outside normal human behaviour.

He argued that people capable of abducting innocent children and teachers cannot be viewed through the lens of ordinary reasoning.

His comments reflected the growing frustration many Nigerians feel about the persistent threat of kidnapping and insecurity across parts of the country.

Behind the Scenes of the Rescue Operation

The governor revealed that federal security operatives have been actively involved in the rescue efforts for weeks.

According to him, security teams remained in the state throughout the Sallah period and have continued working around the clock to track down the victims.

Makinde disclosed that he has held multiple meetings daily with security officials as efforts intensify to secure the release of those abducted.

Warning Against Division and Political Distractions

The governor also cautioned against comments or actions that could create division within the state.

He warned that those behind the abduction would benefit if residents turned against one another or lost confidence in the rescue mission.

Makinde urged citizens to remain focused on supporting efforts aimed at securing the safe return of the victims.

A Promise to Worried Families

Perhaps the most emotional moment of his address came when he offered reassurance to families desperately waiting for good news.

While acknowledging the pain and uncertainty surrounding the incident, Makinde expressed confidence that the abducted children and their teachers would eventually regain their freedom.

For parents who have spent sleepless nights hoping for a breakthrough, the governor’s assurance may offer a measure of comfort.

However, until the victims are safely reunited with their families, the anxiety gripping Ogbomoso is unlikely to fade.

For now, an entire community continues to wait, pray and hope for the moment their children finally come home.
