Security in Nigeria’s South-West has remained a difficult conversation — especially in rural communities where many residents say fear has become part of daily life.
Now, Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho says he wants to become part of the solution.
The activist has disclosed that he is still waiting for approval from the Federal Government to officially launch his proposed security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network.
“Everything Has Been Submitted” — Igboho
In a statement released on Monday, Igboho said all documents required for registration and official approval have already been submitted.
According to him, the group is currently awaiting government clearance before beginning operations.
His proposed security network, he said, is designed to focus on tackling insecurity and restoring safety across forests and vulnerable communities in the South-West.
Plan Is Cooperation, Not Competition
Igboho stressed that the outfit is not intended to operate independently of government structures.
Instead, he said the goal is collaboration.
According to him, Iru Ekun Security Network is prepared to work alongside existing security institutions including the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other relevant agencies.
The target, he explained, would be crimes such as kidnapping, banditry, and violent attacks affecting rural areas.
Tinubu’s Security Efforts Receive Backing
The activist also expressed support for the security approach of President Bola Tinubu.
He argued that the current administration appears committed to reducing criminal activities across different parts of Nigeria, including the South-West.
His comments come at a time when conversations around community policing and local security initiatives continue to attract national attention.
Igboho Signals Readiness To Follow Oyo Rules
Igboho further declared that the proposed security outfit is ready to comply with regulatory requirements introduced by Governor Seyi Makinde regarding private security operations.
He said any framework designed to improve accountability and strengthen public safety would receive the group’s support.
Why Security Remains Bigger Than Politics
Beyond politics and approvals, Igboho argued that insecurity continues to affect livelihoods.
He noted that farmers and rural residents often bear the biggest consequences when communities become unsafe.

According to him, peace and security are essential for agricultural production, economic growth, and sustainable development.
The bigger question now is no longer whether communities want safer environments.
The question is whether local initiatives and government institutions can find common ground before insecurity creates deeper economic and social costs.
