Night-time repair crews will soon tackle the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road.
The Federal Government has ordered urgent fixes to solve traffic chaos and critical failures.

Urgent Night Repairs on Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road
Earlier on Monday, Minister of Works Sen. Dave Umahi inspected the highway linking Lagos and Ogun States.
After walking 22 kilometres of the road, he identified 18 kilometres as most damaged and in urgent need.
Therefore, crews will start repairs mostly at night to reduce traffic disruption and reopen blocked sections.
Meanwhile, officials continue work on another 60 kilometres of the corridor, handling it in urgent phases.
Concrete Solutions For Damaged Sections
According to Umahi, unresolved concession issues and earlier construction mistakes caused repeated road failures.
Consequently, engineers will rebuild low-lying and badly damaged sections with concrete to improve durability.

He added that the Ota-bound carriageway suffers more damage than the Lagos-bound side.
Next, the project will include full resurfacing, bridge joint replacements, and solar-powered streetlights.
After completing the repairs, the concessionaire will operate and maintain the road for commuters’ safety.
Heavy Traffic Drives Redevelopment
The 81-kilometre Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway links Ikeja in Lagos to Abeokuta in Ogun State.
Daily, over 250,000 vehicles cross this corridor, making it one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
Because of heavy traffic and long-standing structural weaknesses, failures have occurred repeatedly over the years.
In October 2023, the government approved redevelopment under the Highway Development and Management Initiative.
Thus, state governments or concessionaires rebuild federal roads, collect tolls for a set period, and remit proceeds to the Federation Account.
Finally, with night-time repair crews on the road, commuters can expect long-awaited relief soon.
