Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, widely known as Iyanya, has spoken openly about his love life, revealing how his experiences as a celebrity have affected his ability to commit to a serious relationship.

The Kukere hitmaker made the revelation during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, where he explained that he is currently single at 39 because of painful experiences from past relationships that left him emotionally traumatised.

According to Iyanya, several women he dated in the past often used his fame against him, threatening to take private disagreements to gossip blogs whenever misunderstandings occurred.

He said this repeated pattern made him develop trust and commitment issues.

Iyanya’s Statement

“I’m not thinking of a serious relationship or marriage because I’m not mentally ready yet,” the singer said.

“If someone is patient and can stick around until I get to a convenient space, then we can do it. But right now, being committed is one of the hardest things for me.”

Iyanya stressed that despite public assumptions, he has not spent his career playing games with women.

He explained that after being in the music industry for 17 years, it is only natural that he has loved deeply and genuinely.

“I’m human too. I have emotions. I’ve met people and fallen in love genuinely, but each time, they threatened me with going to the blogs whenever we had issues,” he added.

The singer said those experiences pushed him to protect his mental health by stepping away from serious relationships.

As part of that journey, Iyanya revealed that he has embraced celibacy, although he admitted that staying celibate consistently has been a challenge.

While he is not ruling out love completely, Iyanya said he is currently focused on healing and personal growth, noting that he may consider a serious relationship or marriage when he feels emotionally ready.
