The family of former two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has expressed doubts over the necessity of prosecuting the driver involved in the fatal car crash that claimed the lives of two of the boxer’s friends.

The tragic incident occurred on December 29, 2025, when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and three others collided with a stationary truck.

Two passengers, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, lost their lives in the crash.

Also the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared before a court in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Tuesday to face multiple charges.

Reacting to the development, Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, questioned the rationale behind the trial.

Also, he stated that the family does not believe further legal action is necessary.

We are very lucky that our son didn’t die. But taking this man to court is something we don’t see any reason for. In my personal opinion, the trial is not really worth it because accidents can happen anywhere in the world,” he said.

He added that public sentiment within the town appears to be driving the prosecution.

Many residents insists the driver must be held accountable over allegations of speeding.

Meanwhile, the Traffic compliance and Enforcement Agency in Ogun State disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed and suffered a tyre burst before crashing into the truck.

Kayode’s court appearance was brief, as the presiding judge adjourned the case until February 25 following a request for more time by the prosecution.
