Celebrity fashion entrepreneur and founder of Tiannah Empire, Toyin Lawani, has called on the Nigerian government to urgently regulate the country’s healthcare system following alleged medical negligence by a Lagos-based private hospital, Euracare.

Lawani made the call in an Instagram post on Sunday, January 11, 2026, where she accused the hospital of mismanaging her health after undergoing spine surgery.
According to her, the procedure led to serious complications, which she attributed to negligence on the part of the medical facility.
She further alleged that most of the doctors at Euracare are not permanent staff, claiming they are brought in to perform surgeries and leave immediately after.
Toyin Lawani also accused the hospital of using “international standards” as a marketing tool to attract patients, while allegedly failing to deliver proper care.
Expressing concern over the state of healthcare in the country, Lawani warned Nigerians who can afford medical treatment abroad to consider doing so, stating that many private hospitals operate purely as businesses without adequate oversight.
“Nigeria’s healthcare system needs regulation. Anybody from abroad can have money and come open a hospital in Nigeria as a business and do as they wish,” she wrote.
Lawani said she was further compelled to speak out after seeing a recent post by renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who also accused Euracare of negligence over the death of her son.
According to Lawani, speaking up is necessary to prevent further loss of lives and to draw attention to what she described as systemic failures within Nigeria’s private healthcare sector.
