Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold and AG Baby, has shared details of a deeply emotional New Year celebration held at the historic Kosoko Palace.
In an Instagram post, the singer described the gathering as particularly meaningful, noting that it came shortly after a fire incident on Lagos Island, just a few buildings away from the palace.
According to Adekunle Gold, the celebration turned into a moment of unity and healing, as community members came together to share food, joy, prayers, and words of encouragement despite the recent tragedy.
During the event, Adekunle Gold was formally honoured by the Kosoko family in recognition of his service to humanity, his efforts in promoting the Kosoko family name, and his contribution to preserving and advancing the family’s musical legacy.
In a presentation rich in Yoruba cultural symbolism, he was gifted an Eyo cap, a ceremonial staff, and several awards.
A family elder, while presenting the honours, offered prayers and blessings over the singer, declaring that honour, prosperity, and enduring rewards would remain with him and his family.
Adekunle Gold described the moment as humbling and reaffirmed his deep connection to his roots and community.
