Nene Aderigbigbe, mother of Afrobeats star Ayra Starr, has opened up about her decision to sever relationships with three close friends.
She cited betrayal of trust, inappropriate conduct, and emotional exhaustion.

In a New Year reflection shared on TikTok,Nene Aderigbigbe explained that the decision followed deep self-reflection and a desire to protect her peace and mental wellbeing.
“So I was reflecting on life because it’s a new year and you want to see what you can correct. I remembered that a few years ago, I cut off from a few of my friends. I even asked myself if I overreacted,” she said.
According to her, the first friendship ended after a serious breach of trust.
A private conversation she shared in confidence was relayed to her husband without her consent.
Also, she said the incident made her immediately withdraw from the relationship.
The second friendship was cut off after she became uncomfortable with the behaviour of her friend’s husband.
He allegedly sent her inappropriate messages, including unsolicited details about his travel plans.
“I am your friend, why will your husband be telling me where he is travelling to?” she asked, stressing that the situation made her feel disrespected and uneasy.
Aderigbigbe added that the third friendship became emotionally draining due to constant complaints about marriage.
She said the friend, who had been married for over 20 years, repeatedly leaned on her with unresolved marital issues, which began to affect her mental health.
“You have been married for 20 years and you are still calling me to complain about your marriage. What do you want me to do?” she said.
She concluded that she chose to quietly step away from the friendships without offering explanations.
