US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States military has successfully carried out airstrikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria.
He describes the operation as the start of broader action against extremist groups.

Trump made the announcement on Christmas Day.
He stated that the strikes targeted ISIS-affiliated terrorists hiding in Sokoto State, located in Nigeria’s North West region.
According to him, the operation involved “powerful and deadly” air attacks on terrorist strongholds.
The US leader recalled that in November 2025, he publicly condemned the killing of Christians in Nigeria’s North West and North Central regions.
He warns that his administration would take decisive action against those responsible.
Also, he had vowed not to allow continued attacks on innocent civilians.
Following weeks of consultations and deliberations with Nigerian authorities, Trump said agreements were reached on how to proceed.
Shortly after, the US government announced that it carried out the strikes on terrorist camps located in the Sokoto forest on Thursday night.
“In my direction as Commander-in-Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He further declared that there would be no safe haven for radical Islamic terrorism under his leadership.
