Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan shone on the global stage once again, clinching silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday, September 15, 2025.

Amusan clocked 12.29 seconds in a fiercely contested final, finishing just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who struck gold with a national record of 12.24s.
The United States’ Grace Stark took bronze in 12.34s, while Masai Russell placed fourth in 12.44s.
The 28-year-old hurdler, who became the first Nigerian and African to win a world title in Oregon 2022, narrowly missed out on reclaiming her crown but reaffirmed her world-class status.
Tobi Amusan’s silver adds to a glittering career that includes a world record of 12.12s, Diamond League titles, and Commonwealth Games success.
Amusan’s performance marks a strong comeback after missing the finals at the Paris Olympics, silencing critics and reigniting Nigeria’s hopes at the championships.
Rising star Ezekiel Nathaniel, 21, also advanced to the men’s 400m hurdles semifinals with a time of 48.37s, keeping Nigeria’s medal chances alive.
