“Most Nigerian Men Cheat” – Actress Bimbo Akintola Speaks Out

He argues that a vast majority of Nigerian men are unfaithful in relationships.

According to Bimbo Akintola, between 90 to 99 percent of men cheat, a behaviour she believes is not accidental but rather culturally ingrained and passed down across generations.

She explained that many men grow up watching their fathers and grandfathers normalise polygamy or keep multiple girlfriends, which subtly influences their outlook on relationships.

I don’t know where this idea of fidelity in Africa came from. Your father cheats, your grandfather cheated, my father had two wives,” she said.

Some of them even started cheating by following their fathers to girlfriends’ houses. By the time you’re seven years old, your character is already forming, so changing that mindset later becomes difficult.”

Bimbo Akintola clarified that she was not justifying unfaithfulness, but rather highlighting the realities of Nigerian relationships.

Also, she noted that women who leave cheating partners often face the same issue with their next partner, because infidelity is deeply rooted in cultural patterns.

I’m not excusing it, don’t get me wrong. I am just being realistic when it comes to these situations. It’s engraved in them. You leave one, you get to the next, and you still face the same issue,” she added.
