Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has finally explained the real reason behind his long-rumoured rift with fellow artiste, Flavour.
Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM Lagos, the “Limpopo” crooner said the issue between them is not about rejection or record deals, but what he described as a superiority complex.
According to him, some people in the industry underrate his talent because he is humble and does not brag.
Kcee revealed that his first encounter with Flavour happened many years ago when popular talent manager, Soso Soberekon, brought Flavour to him to sign to his record label.
At the time, Kcee said he declined because he did not see enough potential in him then, stressing that it was not based on hatred or personal issues.
“I don’t think that was why he is holding a grudge against me,” Kcee said.
“Sometimes, when people think you won’t progress and you grow beyond their expectations, it creates tension.”
“I was already in the industry and doing well before he came to Lagos.”
Kcee added that many of his colleagues underestimate his talent due to his quiet nature.
“Because I don’t brag, they think I’m not talented.”
“But my work always proves every doubter wrong.”
“Some people who doubted me in the past have come back to apologise,” he said.
The tension between the two artistes became public in 2024 when Flavour shared a post on social media, accusing an unnamed person of copying his musical style.
Although he did not mention anyone directly, Kcee reacted, warning Flavour not to gatekeep Igbo cultural music.
He also reminded him that he had been in the music industry before him.
Despite the long-running rumours and public exchanges, Kcee said he still believes time will eventually reveal the true root of their issues.
