Nigerian activist and social media critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), was overcome with emotion on Wednesday
He mourned the gruesome murder of Anambra-based businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekere, also known as “Fish Magnet.”
The slain entrepreneur was reportedly kidnapped last Saturday by unknown gunmen who stormed his residence in the Ezinifite community, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Despite efforts to locate him, his lifeless body was discovered on Wednesday.
This sparks outrage and despair among many, including VeryDarkMan .
Reacting to the tragic incident in a video shared via his official Facebook page, VeryDarkMan was visibly shaken and broke down in tears.
He condemned the increasing wave of kidnappings and killings plaguing Anambra State and other parts of the country.
Also, he describes the situation as heartbreaking and unacceptable.
“The kidnapping and killings in Anambra State are too much,” he lamented.
“What is the hope of the entrepreneurs? What is the hope of those going into business in Nigeria?”
VeryDarkMan revealed plans to visit Anambra on August 4th for a candlelight procession in honour of the late businessman.
He stated that the march would serve both as a tribute to the victim
Also, it means to raise awareness about the worsening security crisis in the state.
Awareness walk
He emphasised the importance of ensuring that the awareness walk does not conflict with the weekly sit-at-home order in the region, which often paralyses activities and increases tensions.
“We will walk through the fish market and talk to the people about the danger of what is happening,” he said.
“We must bring attention to the unchecked kidnappings and the lives being lost.”
Onyekere, fondly known as “Fish Magnet” for his success in the fish trade, was the son of a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State.
