On Wednesday at Enugu State Government House, Governor Peter Mbah signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law……

Enugu Signs 2026 Budget Into Law

The State Assembly quickly passed the bill, and lawmakers worked closely with the executive.

The government now enforces the budget immediately across Enugu State.

The 2026 plan prioritises inclusivity, transparency, accountability, traceability, and stronger institutions.

It ensures that every naira produces clear value for citizens.

IGR Target And Economic Expansion

Meanwhile, Governor Mbah set a bold ₦870 billion Internally Generated Revenue target for 2026.

He described it as realistic based on recent performance.

First, IGR rose from below ₦30 billion in 2023 to over ₦180 billion in 2024.

Next, he projected ₦400 billion by the end of 2025.

“We will exceed ₦800 billion in 2026,” he said confidently, as he outlined the growth path.

In addition, he said new economic streams will expand revenue across Enugu State.

Consequently, the state will reduce dependence on federal allocations.

Federal allocations will then account for only 27–28% of total revenue.

As a result, Enugu will fund more of its own development.

However, Mbah warned that achieving this target requires daily effort and strict discipline.

Revenue expectations now exceed ₦70 billion monthly.

Furthermore, that equals ₦18 billion weekly and ₦2.5 billion daily.

Therefore, he urged officials to avoid distractions and act with urgency.

Infrastructure Drive And Development Plans

In the Assembly, Speaker Uchenna Ugwu praised strong cooperation between both arms of government.

He also said 2026 will deliver major infrastructure projects across Enugu State.

For example, the plan includes new roads and a 135.5km rail project.

Additionally, the government will acquire more aircraft and build modern transport terminals.

It will also establish smart secondary schools and complete 260 farm estates.

Earlier, Mbah presented the “Budget of Renewed Momentum” to lawmakers for approval.

It reflects a 66.5% increase over the 2025 budget.

Finally, Enugu now drives faster growth, stronger delivery, and greater fiscal independence.
