This Saturday, Lagos Island will host the colourful Eyo Festival, drawing crowds from across the city.
Consequently, motorists and commuters should plan ahead as several major roads will close temporarily.

Eyo Festival; Roads To Close
The Lagos State Government issued a traffic advisory on Wednesday via its official X account.
It stated that the Third Mainland Bridge, Obalende, and surrounding streets will face partial or full closures.
These closures aim to allow the traditional festival procession to move safely through the city.
Traffic authorities will restrict movement along the Third Mainland Bridge, Adeniji Adele Road, Sura junction, and Obalende axes.
Moreover, they will close Onikan junction, CMS Bridge axes, Outer Marina, and UBA-Inner Marina streets.
Apongbon Bridge, Olowogbowo, Ebute Ero, Idumota axes, Carter Bridge, Ejalonibu, and Odo Alagbafo will also close.
Suggested Detours
To reduce congestion, the government has suggested alternative routes.
For example, drivers heading into Lagos Island can take Dolphin Road, Osborne Road, Alfred Rewane Road, and Falomo Bridge.

Meanwhile, those leaving the island can use Eko Bridge, Apongbon, CMS Bridge, and Ozumba Mbadiwe Road.
LASTMA officials will guide motorists at all key junctions to prevent unnecessary delays.
Additionally, commuters should expect heavy traffic, follow official instructions, and consider using public transport.
Plan Ahead For Smooth Travel
Earlier this year, Lagos applied similar measures during Ogudu/Ifako Bridge repairs and ACME Road closures for events.
These steps demonstrate the state’s proactive approach to managing traffic during major cultural and political events.
Ultimately, as Lagos prepares for the Eyo Festival, tradition, music, and colour will fill the streets.
Commuters must plan carefully to ensure a safe, smooth, and enjoyable experience for everyone.
