TikTok is a China-owned video app that allows creators to make short videos and share them with others who watch.

The video app became more popular since the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown and has managed to stay relevant since then.

However, it is introducing a feature to help people “stay in control” of their use of the app.

TikTok is setting a 60-minute daily screen time limit for users who are not up to 18 years old and it will be rolled out “in the coming weeks”.

Once they hit the new limit daily, they will have to enter a passcode to continue to use the service that day.

However, they can opt out of the new measure if they wish.

The limit is coming after TikTok brought in a prompt in 2022 to encourage teenagers to manage their screen time.

The video app said this prompt helped “increase the use of our screen time tools by 234%”.

A minimum age of 13 is required to create an account on the video app and with the new feature, anyone under the age of 18 will receive a weekly notification with a “recap of their screen time”.

Family Control Of Screen Time

The new feature would allow for parental control of children’s screen time.

Parents of children using the Family Pairing option on the app will be able to set screen time limits.

The update would include a dashboard that would give a breakdown of app usage.

The company said it had worked with researchers in developing the new limits.
