President Bola Tinubu on Friday appointed Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), after suspending Godwin Emefiele.
Godwin Emefiele’s suspension is with immediate effect and he is to hand over to Adebisi Shonubi.
Born on March 7, 1962, Shonubi, has gone ahead to gather well over 30 years experience in the banking industry and will now take over as the acting governor of the CBN.

The Mechanical Engineer
The astute banker holds a double degree in the field of Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Lagos.
After his studies, he began working as a Consultant Engineer at Mek-ind Associates and worked from 1984 to 1989, then from 1989 to 1990, he was a Marketing Executive at Inlaks Computers Limited.
The Banking Journey
Shonubi’s journey into the banking industry began after he got a job at Citibank Nigeria Limited as Head, Treasury Operations between 1990 to 1993. This was after he had obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA)
After six years, he joined MBC International Limited as Deputy General Manager, Banking Operations & Information Technology from 1996 to 1999.
Furthermore, he joined First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited as Vice-President, Operations & Information Technology and was there till 2002.
In 2003, he moved from FCMB to Ecobank Nigeria Plc as an Executive Director, Operations & Information Technology.
In 2007 he became the Director, Information Technology and Corporate Services, Renaissance Securities Nigeria Limited.

Also, he was recruited by Union Bank of Nigeria Limited as an Executive Director, Operations, Technology and Services, September 2009 to April 2012.

Between 2012 and 2018, He was the Managing Director/CEO, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc.
CBN Journey
Folashodun Shonubi later joined the CBN in 2018, as the Deputy Governor, Operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) representing the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria on the Board of FIRS since the 9th of December, 2019.
Basically, one of the issues Emefiele may answer to will be the Naira redesign policy that killed many small businesses in Nigeria.
