The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said it has seen complaints about the published voters’ register on Social media, but those companies cannot be acted upon.

Speaking at a round table meeting with Media Bureau Chiefs in Abuja, on Friday, Barr. Festus Okoye, representing INEC Hon. Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made this statement.

Okoye noted that the commission is working on being transparent and the public has to play their part as “election business is public business.”

Adding that the commission is following the social media complaints but would require the public to also make objections on the commission’s website or else the complaints would be invalid and nothing would be done about them.

Okoye said, “We recommend and acknowledge the fact that election business is public business and will continue to seek the cooperation and partnership of all political stakeholders as we move to the last lap of our preparation for the elections.

” We will harvest all claims, and all objections and complaints and carefully and objectively deal with them. We are already harvesting the complaints and objections, and claims that have been made on our websites.

” In all the registration areas and the local governments we have, we have the revision officers and assistant revision officers, and this revision officers and assistant revision officers are going to adjudicate on all the complaints give it all the objections, and also do with all the complaints arising from the display of the voter’s register.

“The whole essence of the display is for Nigerians to double-check the register and assist the commission put in place a robust, comprehensive, and acceptable register.

“While it is important to use social media to point out errors issues and challenges in the register, the correction of the errors and removal of malicious registrations must follow the procedures and sequence outlined in sections 19 and 20 of the electoral Act, 2022.”

He, however, encourages the public to visit the website to make their claims or visit the registration areas.
