Barbara Ndugbu, who is the CEO of Ovensecret, started her baking career as a hobby while hunting for jobs on her return to Nigeria after her master’s degree in London.
Three months before completing her master’s degree, she started applying for jobs, but none was forthcoming.
So, she decided to register for a two-week program where she learned the skill of baking and decorating.
On her return to Nigeria, she baked to keep herself busy and to give to her loved ones.
Barbara baked a cake for her mother’s friend, who was celebrating her birthday, and everyone couldn’t get enough of the cake.
The guests kept asking who the baker was; a friend of Barbara’s mother paid her to bake her another cake, and that was how she got her first client.
Even though Mrs. Ndugbu didn’t plan on becoming a professional baker, the rest, they say, is history.
